Women Transforming Community through Philanthropy
Panel discussion led by Moira discussing the impact of women in philanthropy. Featuring women of Tocqueville members Jen Stein and Barbara Turner.
Leigh Fox, President and CEO of altafiber, joined Moira Weir, President and CEO of United Way of Greater Cincinnati, for a dynamic conversation that covered community impact, digital equity and the future of philanthropy in our region. Leigh shared his insights on the significance of digital access for all — an altafiber priority — and the role corporate leaders play in advancing social good through partnership and investment in digital equity.
His reflections on volunteerism, leadership and community involvement were especially impactful, drawing from his experience on several nonprofit boards, including United Way. Leigh emphasized how sustained engagement and collaboration are key to driving change in Greater Cincinnati, noting that a healthy community and healthy business go together. Additionally, our Tocqueville attendees learned about the inspiration behind the name “altafiber” from Leigh himself! It was an insightful evening.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for the second Tocqueville Leaders Exchange, which featured an inspiring conversation with Jeff Berding, President & Co-CEO of FC Cincinnati and President of FCC Enterprise!
Moira Weir, United Way President & CEO, kicked off the evening, followed by an insightful conversation with Jeff. He recounted his journey with FC Cincinnati, his deep community roots as a fifth-generation Cincinnatian and the team’s values-centered approach to success through its three core values: a family-friendly team, a winning product and making an impact in the community by giving back. Above all, Jeff emphasized the importance of embracing change, growth and the call to “be more, together.”
We kicked off our brand-new Tocqueville event series, Leaders Exchange, with a terrific conversation featuring Tim Spence, Chairman, President and CEO of Fifth Third Bank, and Moira Weir, President and CEO of United Way of Greater Cincinnati.
Tim shared his insights on fostering community relationships and the importance of philanthropy and corporate social responsibility. He highlighted how partnering with organizations like UWGC helps Fifth Third break down barriers in banking to promote financial inclusion. And he pointed out the importance of bringing critical services directly to the communities that need them the most and approaching challenges holistically.
As one of our top Workplaces That Care, Fifth Third is a longtime supporter of Greater Cincinnati and remains committed to making a positive community impact across the region; in Tim’s words, “doing well by doing good.”
United Way proudly hosted our Annual Tocqueville Celebration, honoring donors who embody the spirit of generosity championed by Alexis de Tocqueville, a 19th-century French political thinker known for his insights on American democracy and civic engagement.
We honored three couples for their outstanding generosity and contributions to our community.
Michael and Suzette Fisher, Joel and Lisa Stone and Barbara and Daman Turner were bestowed the 2024 Tocqueville Award for their commitment to philanthropic endeavors.
In addition to the Tocqueville Award honorees, we welcomed David and Marsha Taylor into the Million Dollar Roundtable, a testament to their dedication to our community.
The Women of Tocqueville stopped by to see 211 Care Coordinators in action and hear team members explain why United Way 211 is such an essential public service.
Care Coordinators responded to more than 55,000 requests for help last year. These requests inform our data in real time, allowing UWGC and our network of partners to make strategic and timely decisions to better meet community needs.
Thank you, Audrey Treasure, VP & Executive Director, Workforce Innovation Center at The Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber; Jessica Wright, CEO, Wright Workforce Solutions; and Peter Bergman, VP, Messer Construction Co., for joining us to discuss youth workforce development across Greater Cincinnati.
Ensuring young people thrive in the workforce is a collective responsibility. We’re proud to be tackling this challenge head-on with dedicated partners who provide essential skills and support to the next generation of workers.
It's not just about finding a job; it's about encouraging a sense of purpose and possibility.
