CINCINNATI, Ohio (January 17, 2022) —
Dear United Way Friends,
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’ ”
Spoken 65 years ago in Montgomery, Alabama, those eloquent words are still relevant today in Greater Cincinnati.
What are you doing for others? It is a question I ask myself, not only today – Martin Luther King Jr. Day – but every day. How am I making my corner of the world a better place?
The country Dr. King dreamed of is still not a reality. That truth has been magnified over the past two years as our inequitable systems were exposed by the pandemic, showing we truly live in a world of deeper disparities.
That is why United Way of Greater Cincinnati is dedicated to systems-changing work. We cannot stop at helping people meet their current needs – we must support them along a self-chosen path of progression, learning from those interactions and creating better systems that benefit everyone.
If you would like to join our work, we offer many opportunities through our United Way Volunteer Connection.
On this day, as we honor Dr. King, who did so much, let’s do a little to make our corner of the world a better place.
This great man, who led so many, left behind words that still lead us today.
Sincerely,
Moira Weir
